Can a site for music videos use geo-location successfully? We will find out as soon as the Vevo iPhone app is revealed. It should come out in the next month with features like ‘carousel’ that features the most popular videos.

The geo-location will feature local area bands’ music videos. The details are fuzzy on how bands can get their videos into this service. It doesn’t seem like small acts will have a chance of getting noticed this way as many sites have claimed.

So, will this app actually be used or will it just be an icon 4 pages back? Vevo will hopefully figure out how to get users to pause what they’re doing and watch music videos. Based on what I’ve read, my bet is users will play the videos — only with the device in their pocket and those white ear-buds in their head…basically making the app a bandwidth hogging version of Pandora featuring popular playlists.

If you’re not on the iPhone and want to test it out, it will be available on the iPad and Droid eventually.
