What has always made Nashville great is the voices that have been recorded here, & the lyrics that have been created here.
Those lyrics have been formed out of personal experiences & hardships. As the rest of the musical world has lost its heart & soul Nashville has managed to keep it. Robby Hecht is a perfect example of an artist who writes lyrics with plenty of heart & whose voice has been praised by the likes of Jeff Coffin & compared to James Taylor, Paul Simon & Amos Lee. Robby was born in East TN but did not start writing until he attended the University of WI in Madison. From there he spent some time living in San Francisco where he played for the band AllDay Radio.
Robby’s debut album “Late Last Night”, which was released in 2008, is a must have for anyone who is a fan of honest, real music. With guest musicians, Mindy Smith, Jeff Coffin, Thad Cockrell, & Jill Andrews, Robby has assembled some of the best that Nashville & East TN has to offer. This album deserves to be reviewed in its own right, but the song that we were able to offer today is actually going to be part of Robby’s new album. “A Reckoning of Us” was recorded live back in 2008 and is a song about love that grew strong, but faded because of arguments that were never resolved. Friendship was lost but as Robby sings in the chorus “Someday there will be a reckoning of us. Someday we will both come around. Someday our arguments will all turn to dust. Time levels out the ground”. It’s a song that relates to a place that we’ve all been in our lives, where forgiveness is needed but sometimes so hard to give.
Robby’s new, as of yet titled album, will be completely fan funded. Many artists have done this with great success and it’s a very interesting way of making people feel attached & take personal ownership of the music. Donate $25 to secure your copy, then head on over to Reverb Nation to pick up “Pots of Gold”, another song on his new album, where you can sign up for Robby’s e-mail list. Robby Hecht is touring all over the US & will be making a stop in Nashville on July 30th at the Hard Rock Cafe.
