Americana music, what is it exactly? Ask anyone that question & you’re bound to get several different answers. The official definition is rather lengthy but basically Americana music is a blending of rock, folk, roots & country music to create an entirely new genre. The NY Times is calling it “The coolest music scene today!”, but  an even simpler answer is that it’s just raw, real, music. It’s music that will echo throughout history & will always inspire because it speaks to the heart of people. Rayland Baxter is one of these artist who is making raw, real music that will always inspire! I first heard about Rayland Baxter’s music just a few weeks ago because of his tour with Joe Pug. Rayland’s father, Bobby Baxter, played steel guitar for Bob Dylan in over 739 shows and is a legend in his own right. His son is a legend in the making!

From the first note of “The Woman For Me”, the song available for download today, I knew I was hearing someone that was special & if the world doesn’t know of him yet they definitely will! With echos of influences like John Prine & Bob Dylan in his lyrics & voice, “The Woman for Me” is a beautiful song of heartache & loneliness. Bobby Baxter’s steel guitar compliments the loneliness of the lyrics & Rayland’s voice draws the listener in & makes them truly feel the heartache expressed in the song.
