What made Nashville “Music City USA”? Well it all started with a song & a songwriter. Nashville’s songwriters are its heart, without them this city would cease to be what it is. Those songwriters create the music that gets stuck in your head & in your heart. Jake Ousley is one of those songwriters whose music has found it’s way into my head & there is no way in getting it out….and that’s a good thing!

Jake Ousley is a Belmont grad who got his start on the road with Dave Barnes & Matt Wertz, not as a musician but as their manager. It took him leaving Nashville and life on the road before he realized his calling. Jake left Nashville for Michigan in 2008 to take a job as a youth leader. There his music took shape & became stronger. Jake realized his music was connecting with people & with the encouragement of his friends, he headed back to Nashville. Jake has since released an amazing EP of 6 songs that can be downloaded for free on NoiseTrade.

I’ve decided to highlight the song “Wait On Love”. It’s the more country/bluegrass song on the album, but Jake’s soulful voice compliments it perfectly. You can tell that the lyrics to this song were written from Jake’s heart and his time spent out on the road between Michigan & Nashville. “Wait On Love” is about taking a relationship that is worth it, slow. “If it’s love that we’re waiting on, then lets wait on love patiently”. If you’re a fan of Dave Barnes or Matt Wertz then this song is definitely worth your time to download.
