The great thing about Nashville is there is never a shortage of bands to write about. On any given week I can usually find a band that’s promoting a new album or who has decided to give away a previous album that deserves some attention. This week though I’m changing it up a little bit & writing about a band that needs your help funding their new album. They just so happen to have a show coming up this Sunday at 3rd & Lindsley as well. That band is Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors.
I was first introduced to Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors through last year’s Next Big Nashville Festival. Since then their music has never left my playlist of great local acts. Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors make the kind of music that gets stuck in your head. It’s the kind of music that becomes the soundtrack to some of the true soul stirring moments in your life. Take for example the song “Love Is Magic” on 2008’s “Passenger Seat” . It’s the kind of song you blair while driving back after a great first date or that moment you realize you’re in love. 2009’s acoustic album “A Million Miles Away” contains the song “Mercy”, a beautiful song about finding God’s grace & love in those moments where our own self reliance no longer becomes enough. In short Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors know how to make great music! To continue making that great music though they need your help. For 2011’s upcoming album “Chasing Someday” they have called on you,me, & all their fans to help them fund it through the fundraising site Kick Starter. For those of you un-familiar with Kick Starter you can help fund projects & for your support you are rewarded with different incentives depending on how much you donate. For more info on the “Love Your Neighbors” campaign check out this Video.
If you visit their Kick Starter page you can see they’ve already reached their goal of $15,000 but they still need your help to reach their new goal of $25,000 to help off set the full cost of making a new album as well as the expense of promoting a new album. Head on over to LoveNeighbors.com & send some love their way.
It wouldn’t be Free Music Friday without some free music so we’re offering a track from Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors Noisetrade album “Live On Lighting 100”. The song I’ve chosen from this album is the one that got me into Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors in the first place “Hung the Moon”. The lyrics speak of being so in love that you think the person hung the moon & because of that you don’t need anything else. The song is basic in its instrumentation because it doesn’t need anything crazy when Ellie Holcomb’s simple but beautiful vocals are carrying the song. Visit Noisetrade.com to hear the rest of this album & to download the entire thing for free.
If you would like to see Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors live then come to 3rd & Lindsley this Sunday at 7pm where they will be playing with another great local act Ben Rector. If you can’t make it make sure to listen on Lightning 100 since they’ll be broadcasting live starting at 8pm.
