Americana music, what is it exactly? Ask anyone that question & you’re bound to get several different answers. The official definition is rather Raylandlengthy but basically Americana music is a blending of rock, folk, roots & country music to create an entirely new genre. The NY Times is calling it “The coolest music scene today!”, but  an even simpler answer is that it’s just raw, real, music. It’s music that will echo throughout history & will always inspire because it speaks to the heart of people. Rayland Baxter is one of these artist who is making raw, real music that will always inspire! I first

Nashville is a “big town/small town” and those who have lived here long enough know exactly what I mean. No matter where you go you always seem to run into someone from Nashville. On a recent vacation trip to Tampa I walked into a random bar to check out some music I was hearing from the street. I had no clue who the band was but they sounded great! In-between songs I could have swore the lead singer said they were from Nashville and sure enough they were. The band I was hearing was Parachute Musical. At the end of their set I spoke to Josh Foster, the lead singer of the band, who directed me to

What has always made Nashville great is the voices that have been recorded here, & the lyrics that have been created here. Those lyrics have been formed out of personal experiences & hardships. As the rest of the musical world has lost its heart & soul Nashville has managed to keep it. Robby Hecht is a perfect example of an artist who writes lyrics with plenty of heart & whose voice has been praised by the likes of Jeff Coffin & compared to James Taylor, Paul Simon & Amos Lee. Robby was born in East TN but did not start writing until he attended the University of WI in Madison. From there he spent some

McKendree Mania, Vol. 1

McKendree has been writing and performing music since he was 14, and McKendree Mania Vol. 1 is his first self-funded project. Recorded in Cambridge, England at the Vertical Rooms Studios with Zombieboy, and mastered by Mike Marsh at The Exchange in London, England, it definitely screams euro-pop-dance music. The album does not disappoint! Life Creates Art is an upbeat, danceable song, and is inspired by the saying “Life Creates Art & Art Creates Life.” I also really dig Scream and Rocket. I can definitely hear Europe’s DJ’s getting excited to remix those two tracks in particular. I.W.F.B.S. is a tongue-and-cheek track – what man or woman is oblivious to the powers of Britney Spears? Where Are the Snowflakes? is a beautiful ballad, and the only one on the

FREE: Keegan Dewitt’s “Say La La”

As most people know Nashville is the home of country music but we also have one of the best indie music scenes in the US. Unfortunately a lot of this music can be lost in the mix. To make sure this doesn’t happen we’re starting a new post every week where we post a MP3 of a local Nashville musician whose music deserves to be spread & to be heard.

To kick it off we’re starting with Keegan Dewitt. Keegan is the creator of amazing film scores for such indie films as “Cold Weather” & “Quiet City” & whose full length album “Islands” was released to amazing reviews. Keegan has a new seven
